Day by Day Programme
Monday 30 April: Arrivals. Informal playing in the afternoon for those who arrive early or time to explore the village of St Goar. A welcome drink in the Wine Cellar of the Hotel will be followed by dinner in the Hotel Dining Room or weather permitting on the Terrace both with romantic views overlooking the Rhine, the legendary Lorelei Rock and Castle Catz. Meals include local specialities with all fresh produce from the local area. Our hotel has its own butchery and bakery as well as wine cellar. Meals will be a highlight of this week! Optional chamber music playing after dinner.
Tuesday 1 May: Morning - scheduled chamber music playing. Free for lunch.. An afternoon in St Goar, our charming local town with one of the largest castles, Fortress Reinfels, towering above it. We take the small train up to see the spectacular views and tour this ruined castle built in 1245. Dinner in the hotel followed by optional informal chamber music playing.
Wednesday 2 May: Morning - Depart for a cruise to the historic wine town of Rudesheim. For around three hours we pass many picturesque towns and magnificent castles with vineyards climbing up the hills. Lunch in one of the traditional taverns in the 15th Centuury Drosselgasse in the heart of Rudesheim with local music then explore some of the museums or walk around this fascinating town. Return in the late afternoon. Free for dinner then informal music playing in the evening.
Thursday 3 May: Morning scheduled playing. In the afteroon we then visit a fascinating Winery and old Mill in St Goar with wine tastings and learn about wine production and the workings of the Old Mill. The Martinu Quartet arrive during the afternoon. A concert before dinner with the Quartet in the hotel. We then meet to discuss plans for the coaching sessions.
Friday 4 May: 10.00 to 13.00 - Intensive coaching with members of the Martinu Quartet (Playwip). Free for lunch then 15.00 to 18.00 coaching. Dinner in the hotel.
Saturday 5 May: Chamber music playing with coaching. During the break you may have coffee in the dining room and perhaps a special cake from their bakery! Afternoon – visit a fascinating winery and old Mill in St Goar with wine tastings and learn about wine production and the workings of the Old Mill. Dinner in the hotel.
Sunday 6 May: Our final intensive coaching with the Martinu Quartet. Afternoon - We take a train to vist the Beethoven House Museum where we have a tour with a headset in German or English. We walk around the nearby area, so much a part of Beethoven’s early life. Return to the hotel for our farewell dinner.
Monday 7 May: Departures.
The hotel has eight bicycles which are available to us free of charge. The road along the river on both sides is flat and ideal for bike rides Detailed maps for other routes are available from the hotel.
